Saferpay Merchant Plug-In

Merchant plug-in for Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode

The Saferpay Merchant Plug-in (abbreviated: MPI) is used in e-payment solutions to check the identity of a cardholder online. This occurs before the online payment is carried out. The interactions necessary for the authorization occurs through the cardholder's Internet browser. Merchants who use this process benefit from enhanced security for credit card payments and minimization of the risk of fraud. Each merchant that obtains authorization of the cardholder through Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode is waived the liability for chargebacks on such transactions.

The MPI is used together with an online authorization method. The returned online authentication values (ECI, CAVV and XID or UCAF) are attached to the transaction data of the online authorization.

The following functions are supported by the MPI:

Caching of participating cardholders (BIN range) and automatic updating of the participant list.
Online and offline verification of participating cardholders (using the cache).
Online cardholder authentication.
Verification of the authentication data and associated digital signatures.

The MPI then sends back one of four possible responses:

Cardholder is not a participant in 3-D Secure. Proceed with payment without authentication.
Authentication successful. Proceed with payment.
Authentication declined. Proceed using a different payment method, or decline payment.
Authentication not possible due to technical problems. Proceed using a different payment means, or use payment without authentication.
