Merchants who process, transport or secure credit card numbers through their own system, must have the security of their system certified according to the credit card companies' program, Payment Card Industry Data Security (PCI). With the Saferpay extension, Secure Card Data, data can also be securely processed and stored without the need for this expensive and time-consuming certification.

Sensitive data, such as credit card numbers, are processed and stored in a certified Saferpay computer center. This ensures that such data is kept separated from the merchant application
For payments and subsequent charges, the merchant receives encrypted substitute numbers to use instead of the original credit card number
Non-sensitive data, such as card validity and the cardholder's name remain in the merchant's database
